Shortly after the iPad mini 6 was launched, reports were documented of a "jelly scrolling" effect on the display. According to Apple, this is completely normal behavior. Now there are reports of discoloration and distortion.
As one user on Reddit explained, some iPad mini 6 units may have a manufacturing defect in the 8.3-inch Liquid Retina LCD panel. This user has noticed distortion and discoloration when touching the screen in portrait mode. According to the report, the issues are even more pronounced when running iPadOS in Dark Mode and interacting with the tablet using touch.
I got my 64GB WiFi iPad mini 6 about a week ago and noticed that there is an issue with the LCD panel. If you orient your mini vertically (with the power button in the top right), press down on the screen ever so slightly and you will see distortion and discoloration about an inch from the top right down and inward. On most models, this occurs in three places along the top of the screen (when it is vertical).
Does the iPad mini 6 have a display problem?
The user went to Apple and had the tablet replaced. But the problem was also present on the replacement device. An Apple Retail employee then explained to him that he would not be surprised if Apple announced a recall for the iPad mini 6 display. It is not currently known whether this is a widespread hardware problem. At least reports of this are limited. Those affected can exchange their device directly with Apple or an authorized service partner. If there is further information on this, I will of course report it.
