Apple has released the eighth beta of iOS 26. New developer versions of iPadOS 26, macOS 26 ("Tahoe"), watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 are also available. The updates can be installed via the Apple Developer Program, provided you have an active developer profile. Just one week after the seventh beta, this demonstrates that Apple has now adopted the weekly rhythm typical for the final stages of a beta phase.
Beta 8 makes it clear that iOS 26 is nearing completion. The final version is expected in September, coinciding with the launch of the new iPhones. While the initial betas introduced numerous visible new features, the focus of the latest versions is primarily on fine-tuning, stability, and compatibility. Beta 8 follows this pattern and primarily serves as preparation for the final rollout.
Focus on fine-tuning and stability
No major new features or visible changes are currently documented in Beta 8. Instead, the focus is on bug fixes, performance optimizations, and ironing out minor issues that arose in previous versions. Such adjustments are typical for this phase of the beta cycle and crucial to ensuring a stable and reliable system for the fall launch.
Review of the latest innovations
The foundation for iOS 26 remains the development status of the previous betas, which already brought a number of visible changes. Beta 6 and Beta 7, in particular, featured a number of adjustments that are also included in the current version:
- Introducing several new ringtones, including Buoyant, Dreamer, Tech, Pop, Reflected, Surge, and Little Bird
- Refinements to the Liquid Glass design, including toggle buttons, lock screen clock, and passcode keys
- Faster animations when opening and closing apps
- Adjustments in the camera app that brought back classic mode as the default
- A new introductory video that appears after installing iOS 26
- Revised layout of the preview app with more accessible controls
- Introducing Adaptive Power Mode, exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro and newer
- Improved blood oxygen functionality in combination with watchOS 26 on Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2 (US)
- Bug fixes, including an issue with darkened screenshots
These changes demonstrate that Apple is refining the design and usability on the one hand, but is also specifically integrating new features for current devices on the other.
Public beta in preparation
The eighth beta is initially available only to developers. A new public beta, which is technically identical to the developer version, usually follows shortly. This means that testers outside the developer program will soon also have access to the current version.

With Beta 8, iOS 26 is entering its decisive phase. Apple's weekly release cycle suggests the final version will be available on time in September.
