Last week, Apple released iOS 16 beta 5, and the update brought a surprise: It added a battery percentage indicator to new iPhones (iPhone X and later) for the first time. With iOS 16 beta 6, released to developers on Monday evening, the company is giving users even more control over the battery percentage when Low Power Mode is enabled.
Previously, the battery level display was optional, meaning users could choose whether they wanted to see the percentage or the classic battery level indicator in the iPhone's status bar. However, when Low Power Mode was enabled, the battery percentage indicator was also automatically enabled. Even if you chose not to show the percentage indicator on your iPhone, it would appear every time you enabled Low Power Mode. With the latest beta of iOS 16, Apple has changed this behavior. From now on, the battery percentage will no longer be displayed even when Low Power Mode is enabled. This is of course good news for users who did not like how Apple implemented the battery percentage in iOS 16 but were forced to see it in some situations.

However, it is worth noting that Apple does not changes on the surface of the battery percentage made has. This remains the same as in iOS 16 Beta 5. As has been documented, some users found the new battery percentage interface confusing because the battery icon does not match the percentage when the battery is empty. The icon only changes when the battery level drops to 20 %, then it turns red and appears empty. Otherwise, the icon could give the impression that the battery is still full, which is not the case. Another detail of this new implementation is that the battery indicator in iOS 16 is not available for the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini. The reasons for this are unclear.
