Adapting iPhone and iPad apps to iOS 13 must be done by developers. They were originally given a deadline of April 30th. Now Apple has extended the deadline.

Originally, all applications in the App Store were to be April 30th the iOS 13 SDK But Apple has now extended this deadline until June 30th. The new blog post states:

We deeply value the global developer community and appreciate your commitment to improving people's lives through the power of technology. To accommodate developers who may need additional time to update their existing apps on the App Store, the deadline to comply with the following requirements has been extended to June 30, 2020.

This means that developers have until June 30th to implement the following requirements:

  • Apps for iPhone or iPad must be built with the iOS 13 SDK or later and use an Xcode storyboard to provide the app's home screen.
  • iPhone apps must support all iPhone screens and all iPad apps must support all iPad screens.
  • Apps for the Apple Watch must be built with the watchOS 6 SDK or later.
  • Apps that authenticate or set up user accounts must support signing in to Apple when required by Policy 4.8 of the App Store Review Guidelines.
  • Apps in the Children category must fully comply with guidelines 1.3 and 5.1.4.
  • Apps that use HTML 5 must fully comply with Guideline 4.7, Sections 4, 5, and 6 of the App Store Review Guidelines.

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
