On April 30, Facebook held its annual developer conference F8. During the conference, Marc Zuckerberg and senior company officials announced some changes to Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. But one new feature related to Instagram went unnoticed - a shock for many active Instagram users.
At the beginning of the week Facebook for iOS underwent an extensive facelift. Many new features and improvements were added. But Instagram is also gaining important functions - but one essential feature will soon be history. Instagram boss Adam Mosseri announced that he wants to hide likes under photos and videos in the future. This means that users will no longer be able to see how many likes a photo or video has. The like numbers will therefore only be visible to the actual creator. Influencers in particular are shocked by the news from the photo service. But why does Instagram want to hide the likes? There is an answer to that too.
Test run starts shortly
According to Mosseri, users should no longer be influenced by the number of likes, but rather focus more on the actual content – this step would put the different types of content into much greater focus. Whether this change will become permanent is not yet 100 percent certain. Instagram wants to test this change extensively in the first step and make a final decision at the end of the test phase. "We want people to worry less about how many likes they get on Instagram and to spend a little more time with the people who are important to them," says Mosseri. The test run is scheduled to start soon in Canada. Whether and when German users will be able to benefit from this trial remains unknown for the time being.
Instagram was founded in 2010 and acquired by Facebook in 2012. Since the acquisition, the photo service has grown significantly in popularity with many new features and a revised user interface.
