According to this, users will now be forced to state their age. Anyone who does not want to do so will be completely excluded from using the service. Instagram originally started asking users for their birthday in 2019. However, it was possible to reject this request.

In case an incorrect birthday is entered, Instagram is also working on an AI that estimates users' ages based on content such as "Happy Birthday" posts. Theoretically, the system currently under development will detect when a user has entered a higher age than their actual age, which could trigger subsequent verification requests to correct the age.

In March, Instagram implemented techniques that make it harder for adults to send messages to users under 18 who don't follow them.
