The saga of the new HomeKit architecture continues. Code discovered in public smart home standards suggests that the new HomeKit architecture will return at some point in iOS 16.4.

Users who tried to update their HomeKit architecture when iOS 16.2 was released encountered some issues. Devices disappeared or stopped working, and users were unable to undo the update. After widespread complaints about the problems with HomeKit, Apple pulled the update. There were signs that it would inevitably return. Now, there is new information about a release window for the feature. Apple is apparently preparing to roll out the HomeKit architecture update to users in iOS 16.4.

The important HomeKit architecture upgrade could start under iOS 16.4

It is not clear if this is a new version of the update or a bug fix, but those who have already updated are still having to live with a subpar experience. GitHub user Nicolas Alvarez discovered Code in GitHub Connected Home over IP that points to iOS 16.4 as Apple's new target for the HomeKit architecture update. MacRumors was able to verify the validity of the code and the specified version of the features confirm. Although the timing is likely, this code has been updated before. These strings previously had the iOS 16.2 notation and there were indications that they would reappear in iOS 16.3, as we previously reported. The new beta cycle for iOS 16.4 is still pending, but should start shortly. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
