Apple TV+ will release a new season of its lavishly produced sci-fi series Foundation in summer 2025. The third season will premiere on July 11 with one episode per week until the season finale on September 12. A first teaser trailer has already been released. If you've seen the previous seasons or are interested in science fiction with a long narrative arc, you should save the date.

Apple TV+ is known for series like Severance, Ted Lasso, and The Morning Show. In science fiction, the streaming service has established another mainstay with Foundation. The series is based on the novel series by Isaac Asimov, a classic of the genre. Visually, Foundation is more reminiscent of Star Wars or Dune than realistic dramas. Its content explores mathematics, power structures, and long-term strategies in the fight for humanity's survival. The first two seasons are already available on Apple TV+. Now, the next chapter is coming with Season 3.

Release date and release frequency

Foundation Season 3 premieres on Friday, July 11, 2025. The first episode will air on Apple TV+ that day, followed by a new episode every week until September 12. The release schedule will remain the same as previous seasons.

The plot of season 3

The new season picks up 152 years after the events of the second season. The Foundation has grown from a small movement into a major galactic power. At the same time, the Empire, based on the Cleon genetic dynasty, has been significantly weakened. A fragile alliance is developing between the two forces. At the center of the plot is a new threat: a mysterious warlord who calls himself "The Mule." He wields military might but also the ability to control minds. In doing so, he threatens the balance of the entire galaxy. The familiar main characters Hari Seldon, Gaal Dornick, the Cleons, and Demerzel must reposition themselves to deal with the threat. Who will survive in the end is unclear. It's all about power, control, and strategic calculation.

The trailer

Apple TV+ released a first teaser trailer to coincide with the launch date. It features dark images, hints of galactic conflict, and a taste of the atmosphere of the new episodes. Visually, the series remains true to its roots: large space backdrops, elaborate special effects, and an overall high-quality look.

Quality and response of the first two seasons

According to critics, the series has improved significantly. Season 1 achieved a score of 72 on Rotten Tomatoes, while Season 2 achieved an impressive 100. Many viewers also found the second season to be much more well-rounded, both in terms of narrative and character development. Expectations for the third season are accordingly high. Whether the series can maintain or even improve on its previous level will become clear starting in July.

Cost and availability of Apple TV+

Apple TV+ currently costs €9.99 per month. In addition to Foundation, the service offers other series such as Severance, Silo, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, and The Morning Show. A subscription is especially worthwhile if you value high-quality series and enjoy trying out new formats outside the mainstream.
