The Technology Blog TechCrunch reports on a new data breach at Facebook. According to the report, a completely unprotected server was discovered. This contained more than 419 million data records of Facebook users. According to initial reports, around 133 million US users, around 18 million Britons and 50 million users in Vietnam are affected. The data records contain the individual Facebook IDs as well as the telephone numbers stored in the account. Since the company restricted access to the stored telephone numbers around a year ago, the database discovered must be older - according to TechCrunch. According to a Facebook spokesperson, this is actually an outdated data record that has been scrapped - the server itself is now offline.

According to Facebook, there is no indication that any accounts are at risk. The publicly accessible database was originally found by a security researcher. Sanyam Jain was able to access the individual data and, for example, assign telephone numbers to the corresponding account. It remains unclear where the database actually comes from, as Facebook says it was originally scrapped.
