On March 27th, the time had come - Apple activated the ECG function in Germany, among other places, using watchOS 5.2. Just a short time later, the Apple Watch Series 4 detected atrial fibrillation in a German user.

The owner of an Apple Watch Series 4 was considered a major skeptic of the new function. In his opinion, it was only for "hypochondriacs". Shortly after the update, he tried out the new ECG feature for fun - the result: suspected atrial fibrillation. In his letter to the FAZ, he emphasized that his Apple Watch Series 4 kept showing the same result. Somewhat unsure, he contacted a doctor friend - who believed there was a measurement error. However, the unknown user wanted to be sure and went to his family doctor.

He performed a 12-lead ECG and came to the conclusion that the Apple Watch was correct. The unknown user was prescribed medication to treat his Afib. In his email to the FAZ he wrote: "It's true, the Apple Watch has helped extend my life." "Now I look at the whole discussion with different eyes," said the user.

Not the first time

It is not the first time that the new ECG function has saved lives – several Afib cases were reported in January. The Apple Watch is considered the world's most advanced smartwatch and has been ranked first in the health category countless times. Here you can find everything about Topic ECG function of your Apple Watch.
