For about two weeks, Apple TV+ subscribers have been reporting that content is not playing correctly. According to reports, Dolby Vision HDR support has suddenly disappeared without a trace.

It's a phenomenon that has been sweeping through various forums around the world for a good two weeks. Users of an Apple TV 4K model can no longer see TV+ content in Dolby Vision HDR. Instead, compatible titles such as See, The Morning Show, etc. are only displayed in the static version - i.e. in HDR10 format. Although the content has the appropriate labels, there seems to be a problem. Apple has not yet commented on the matter. Initially, users assumed it was a short-term disruption - but it appears to be a larger problem, even if reports indicate that not all content is affected.

Compared to static "HDR10", "Dolby Vision HDR" uses dynamic image metadata that allows Dolby Vision-enabled TVs to adapt the expanded color space and increased contrast range of HDR on a scene-by-scene basis. The loss of Dolby Vision HDR support is noticeable when scenes are too dark or contain a strange color tone, for example. So far, the cause of the problem also seems to be unknown - as soon as we know more or Apple has made a statement, we will update this article accordingly. (Photo by 4kstocks / Bigstockphoto)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
