One week after its International Emmy nomination, it's confirmed that the French culinary drama will continue. Apple TV has renewed "Carême" for a second season, with filming in Paris starting next week. Benjamin Voisin returns as the world's first celebrity chef to win an award.
Apple TV announced the second season of "Carême" in a press release on September 29. The French-language series about chef Antonin Carême, who became a star in Napoleonic Europe while also spying for France, has been available on the service since spring 2025.
The renewal comes at a successful time for Apple TV. In mid-September, the service won 29 Emmys, 14 of them for "Widow's Bay" alone. With "Carême," it is now also represented at the International Emmys, which exclusively recognize productions outside the US.

What Carême is about
The series tells the story of Antonin Carême's rise from humble beginnings in Paris to become the most celebrated chef of his time. His talent attracts the attention of powerful politicians who recruit him as a spy for France. Torn between revenge, fame, and money, he must decide what his ascent is worth to him.
The series is based on a book by historian and screenwriter Ian Kelly, who developed it together with Davide Serino. It is produced by VVZ Production and Shine Fiction, a subsidiary of Banijay France. Filming takes place at historical locations in and around Paris, including the châteaux of Fontainebleau, Chantilly, and Compiègne.

Alongside Benjamin Voisin, who won a César Award for his role in "Lost Illusions," Apple has named Jérémie Renier and Alice Da Luz for the new season. Both were part of the cast of the first season. Director Martin Bourboulon previously directed the two-part film adaptation of "The Three Musketeers.".
The first season and the Emmy nomination
The first season premiered in March 2025 as the opening series of the Series Mania festival in Lille. It launched worldwide on Apple TV on April 30, 2025, with two episodes, followed by one episode per week until the finale on June 11, 2025. Approximately 17 months have passed since its launch.

The awards will be presented on November 23rd at the 54th gala in New York. A total of 64 nominations in 16 categories from 22 countries have been confirmed, including representatives from Germany.
Why the new episodes are taking longer
I think the renewal is a logical step. A series that received good reviews at its launch and has now also convinced an international jury lends itself to a continuation – especially since Apple itself puts the nomination at the beginning of the announcement.
Those waiting for new episodes will need patience. Filming for season 2 doesn't begin until October, followed by post-production. Therefore, I don't expect new episodes until 2027 at the earliest. Until then, the eight episodes of the first season can be caught up on Apple TV.
