Apple TV+ is delivering one of the most exciting series of the year with Bad Monkey, and fans can breathe a sigh of relief: The popular crime series is returning for a second season! But there is a surprise that many weren't expecting. Find out here what we can expect in the new season, why it isn't based on Carl Hiaasen's sequel novel, and when you can expect the sequel.

The success of a series often depends on whether it will be continued. In the case of Bad Monkey, this was no big surprise. The first season thrilled with a mixture of black humor, clever dialogues and a gripping plot. But what does the continuation for the fans? The answer is as exciting as the series itself.

The success of season 1

The first season of Bad Monkey, based on the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen, was a real hit on Apple TV+. The quirky story about a former detective, played by Vince Vaughn, and a mysterious severed hand in Florida captivated viewers around the world. Under the creative direction of Bill Lawrence - known for Ted Lasso and Shrinking - the series became a highlight of Apple's streaming program. Fans and critics alike praised the series for its entertaining characters and the unique mix of crime and comedy. So it's no wonder that the renewal for a second season was quickly decided.

What we know about season 2

The upcoming season will be exciting, but there is one crucial change: The plot will not be based on Hiaasen's follow-up novel Razor Girl. According to a report According to Variety, the producers have decided to tell a completely new story instead. The reason? Razor Girl could be saved for a future season. Bill Lawrence, the co-creator of the series, has already indicated that he sees Bad Monkey as a series with at least three seasons.

"Continuing his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive, is very exciting," Lawrence explained in an interview. This means that viewers can look forward to fresh storylines and exciting twists - without losing the charming, snappy atmosphere that characterizes Bad Monkey.

Why the decision against “Razor Girl” makes sense

The decision not to adapt Razor Girl directly may sound surprising, but it could be to the benefit of the series. By deviating from the book, the creators retain the opportunity to remain flexible and develop the series' plot independently. At the same time, the audience will continue to be surprised - an important factor in the success of an ongoing series. If there is a third season, Razor Girl could serve as a basis to greater effect.

When can we expect season 2?

An official launch date has not yet been announced, but insiders are speculating that it will be summer 2025. The first season premiered in August 2024, and a similar schedule for season 2 would be quite realistic. Production may already have begun, but Apple TV+ is traditionally tight-lipped about details. However, fans can be sure that the second season will be at least as exciting and entertaining as the first.

Apple TV+ Highlight: Bad Monkey continues to delight viewers

With the announcement of the second season, Bad Monkey remains an absolute highlight in the Apple TV+ program. The series manages to combine humor, suspense and quirky characters in a unique way, and the new season promises to expand on this successful formula even further. If you haven't seen the first season yet, now is the perfect opportunity to watch it on Apple TV+ and prepare for the sequel. The anticipation is growing, and one thing is certain: Bad Monkey will also provide entertainment of the highest level in season 2. Stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled for further updates!
