Apple has done it again. Another product was introduced via a press release: the legendary MacBook Pro with a 16-inch display diagonal.

The year 2019 seems to be a year of press releases. Never before in history have so many Apple products been presented via a press release as this year. It all started in March 2019 and continued throughout the year. While the iWelt has been waiting for an October event, Apple currently seems to prefer press releases to a classic keynote. Now let's get to the specifications.

MacBook Pro 16″ – The display

As expected, the MacBook Pro 16″ appears with a display diagonal of 16 inches. The design remains largely the same - except for the fact that it is an edge-to-edge screen. With a resolution of 3072×1920 and a higher pixel density of 226 ppi, the 16-inch Retina display offers almost 6 million pixels and an even more intense front-of-screen experience. Each display is individually calibrated at the factory for gamma, white point and primary colors - according to Apple.

MacBook Pro 16″ – The new Magic Keyboard

Today's presentation marks the end of a controversial era - that of the butterfly keyboard. The previous butterfly keyboard was a well-intentioned idea from Apple. If it weren't so vulnerable, it would certainly be much more popular. Some users have had good luck over the past few years, while others have had to replace their keyboard more than once. The new keyboard was developed on the basis of scissor switches - i.e. with a real pressure mechanism like in previous years. Despite the old technology, the design of the keyboard has been completely redesigned. The press release states:

"The 16-inch MacBook Pro features a new Magic Keyboard with a refined scissor mechanism that delivers 1mm of key travel and a stable key feel, as well as an Apple-designed rubber domain that stores more potential energy for a fast key press. The 16-inch MacBook Pro delivers a keyboard with a comfortable, satisfying and quiet typing experience that focuses on human factors and key design through extensive research and user studies. The new Magic Keyboard also features a physical Escape key and an inverted-T arrangement for the arrow keys, plus a Touch Bar and Touch ID for a keyboard that delivers the best typing experience on a Mac notebook."

The new MacBook Pro can be equipped with either a 2.6 GHz 6-core Intel Core i7 processor of the 9th generation or a 2.4 GHz 8-core Intel Core i) processor of the 9th generation. The i9 processor enables a Turbo Boost of up to 5.0 GHz. The 16-inch model has 16 GB of RAM as standard - but customers can order 32 GB or 64 GB if they wish. The standard graphics card is a Radeon Pro 5300M with 4 GB of memory. If you need more, you can choose between a Radeon Pro 5500M with 4 GB or even 8 GB of memory. The MacBook Pro 16″ has a 512 GB SSD as standard. But there are other options here too. Customers can have a 1 TB SSD, 2 TB SSD, 4 TB SSD or 8 TB SSD hard drive installed.

MacBook Pro 16″ – Prices and Availability

The price of the new beast from Apple starts at 2,699 euros. With the maximum configuration, the new MacBook Pro 16″ costs around 7,139 euros. Interested parties can pre-order the new model directly from Apple – deliveries will start on November 26, 2019. (Image: Apple)
