Apple today announced the winners of the third annual Apple Music Awards, recognizing the best artists of 2021 and their impact on global culture.
Apple announced the winners of the 2021 Apple Music Awards on Tuesday. Each year, the award recognizes the best artists who stand out with their songs throughout the year. The third Apple Music Awards names The Weeknd Artist of the Year, while Olivia Rodrigo, HER and Wizkid are also on the list. A new category, Regional Artist of the Year, was also introduced. The Apple Music Awards, which were first held in 2019, have been expanded this year to recognize more works from around the world. The past 12 months have been a remarkable year for music. We're excited to celebrate the artists who are shaping culture and connecting with fans around the world on Apple Music. This year, we're also recognizing more regional artists to show the world the impact of exceptionally talented musicians making waves around the world.
The winners were announced ahead of a series of interviews and other original content that will be available on Apple Music and the Apple TV app starting December 7, 2021.

- Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year: Olivia Rodrigo
- Songwriter of the Year: HER
- Artist of the Year (Africa): Wizkid
- Artist of the Year (France): Aya Nakamura
- Artist of the Year (Germany): RIN
- Artist of the Year (Japan): OFFICIAL HIGE DANDISM
- Artist of the Year (Russia): Scriptonite
About the Apple Music Awards
Apple has designed a series of physical awards that represent the exceptional craftsmanship necessary to create music. Each award consists of a silicon wafer custom-built by Apple, sandwiched between a polished glass panel and a machined and anodized aluminum casing.
The result of this process, which takes several months to complete before being broken down into hundreds of individual chips, is stunning and distinctive.
