In a recent survey, the company aims to find out how the headset is used, which features are important in everyday life, and how it compares to other devices. This includes not only traditional VR headsets, but also smart glasses – an area in which Apple itself does not yet offer its own product. The survey provides clues as to what Apple is working on internally.
Apple rarely acts rashly. When users are surveyed, there's usually a larger strategy behind it. This time, the focus is on the Vision Pro, but also on the surrounding market. Which competing products are popular? What else do Vision Pro owners use? And what do they expect from accessories and features? Apple is interested in all of this. The survey also shows that Apple is apparently considering new product categories—including smart glasses. The Apple name plays a central role in this, as the company is clearly preparing for its next technological leap.
Questions about using the Vision Pro
The survey initially focuses on typical usage aspects of the Vision Pro. Apple wants to know how well the device fits, how users perceive the screen resolution, and which accessories they use. Features such as Guest Mode and the accompanying iPhone app are also part of the survey. This includes not only technical details, but also everyday user behavior.
Focus on competing products
A key part of the survey focuses on competing devices. Apple specifically asks whether users already own or have used the following products:
- MetaQuest 3
- Meta Quest Pro
- other models from the Meta Quest series
- PlayStation VR
- Valve Index
- ByteDance Pro
These devices are considered direct competitors to the Vision Pro, especially in the areas of mixed reality and virtual reality. Apple apparently wants to find out how the Vision Pro positions itself in the market and where its strengths and weaknesses lie compared to the competition.
Interest in smart glasses
In addition to traditional headsets, Apple is also focusing on smart glasses. The survey asks whether users already have experience with the following products:
- Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
- Amazon Echo Frames
- Snapchat Spectacles
Apple doesn't currently offer its own smart glasses. However, demand for these devices suggests that the company is reviewing its options and analyzing potential target audiences. The smart glasses segment could open up a new product area for Apple.
Plans for Apple's own glasses
Rumor has it that Apple is working on its own pair of smart glasses. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, they are scheduled to launch in 2027. Other sources, such as Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, expect a release as early as 2026. The glasses will support various frame and temple materials to enable customized designs. Planned features include voice control, gesture recognition, and audio playback. Integrated cameras will be able to take photos and videos. The cameras will also transmit information to a built-in AI assistant that analyzes the environment. Following the first version of the glasses, Apple is planning so-called XR glasses, which will have an integrated display and can display augmented reality functions directly in the field of view.
Future of Vision Pro
There's also new information about the Vision Pro itself. A revised model with an M5 chip could be released this year. No further new features are planned. According to Kuo, a new model called the Apple Vision Air will be released in 2027. This device will be lighter and cheaper than the current model and will be based on an iPhone chip instead of a Mac chip. Apple plans to release the second generation of the Vision Pro in 2028, with a revised design, a more powerful Mac processor, and a lower price.
