Even before its official release, a hint has appeared in Apple's software suggesting that Home View will offer more than just music and video playback from third-party providers. The first beta of iOS 27.3 reveals evidence of an app category familiar from the automotive industry, where ChatGPT already runs.

Apple will release Home View on November 13th, but not initially in this country. According to Apple's announcement, the device supports compatible third-party audio and video apps. The first beta of iOS 27.3 now shows clearer signs of another category called „Conversational Apps“.

She found pdfu, who describes the find on X. On November 1st He had already shown an unused switch for it, and most recently also Indications of a camera mode published in the HomeView software.

Key Facts at a Glance

  • The first beta of iOS 27.3 contains traces of the app category „Conversational Apps“ in the bridge to HomeView.
  • According to the finder, preparatory work for sound in both directions, sessions and interruptions are also involved.
  • According to the finder, the whole thing isn't finished yet, and Apple hasn't announced any such apps.
  • The appropriate category has been available under CarPlay since iOS 26.4, and according to Apple, CarPlay apps for audio and video run on HomeView without any changes.

What's in the code

A public comparison between iOS 27.2 and the iOS 27.3 beta confirms the finding: The string „Conversational Apps“ is new in the component that describes pdfu as a bridge between Home View and CarPlay. Also new is an entry for an interrupted conversation app.

According to pdfu, the basics for two-way audio, session management, and interruption will be added. This is exactly what a voice conversation with a chatbot would need, where HomeView listens and responds simultaneously. However, this functionality is not yet fully implemented.

The code doesn't specify which apps should use the category and when. ChatGPT and Claude mention pdfu as possible examples, but this isn't supported by the findings.

The trail leads to CarPlay

This discovery makes particular sense because HomeView already integrates CarPlay apps. Apple states the following on its CarPlay developer page:

CarPlay audio and video apps also work on Apple HomeView without you having to change your app.

The same page lists voice-based conversation apps as a separate CarPlay category, but Apple doesn't mention them for Home View. They've been available in cars since iOS 26.4, and ChatGPT was the first major app to use them this spring. The new code thus reads like the next step in this same opening up: An app that already exists for CarPlay could soon also run on the home display.

Why Apple would create internal competition for Siri AI

I find the discovery plausible, but not a given. Apple places Siri AI at the heart of Home View. Having third-party chatbots on the same device would present a clear comparison, something Apple already tolerates in its cars.

I expect that if Apple enables such apps, they will operate via voice control, similar to how they work in a car, and require a paired iPhone. For German-speaking regions, this won't change anything initially, as the device isn't available here.

Would you prefer to talk to Siri AI on a display in your kitchen, or to the chatbot you already use? Let us know in the comments which one you'd prefer.
