Apple today announced the date for this year’s World Wide Developer Conference 2020 (WWDC) via a press release.
WWDC 2020 will be held digitally for the first time this year. The reason for this is the current COVID-19 pandemic. While the developer conference traditionally took place in early June, WWDC 2020 will be held online this year on June 22nd. This is stated in the press release:
Cupertino, California — Apple today announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference will be held virtually in the Apple Developer app and on the Apple Developer website, free to all developers, beginning June 22. The company also announced the Swift Student Challenge, an opportunity for student developers to show their love of coding by building their own Swift playground. Now in its 31st year, WWDC offers 20 million creative and innovative developers around the world the opportunity to gain early access to the future of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS and learn from Apple engineers as they work to build apps that enrich the lives of Apple customers around the world.
Presentation of iOS 14 and more expected
New operating systems are usually unveiled at WWDC. This year, iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, watchOS 7, and macOS 10.16 are expected. What new features the updated operating systems will bring remains to be seen, of course, until the official announcement. However, a number of iOS 14 leaks have already revealed some features. Which of these will actually be presented remains to be seen. By the way, did you know that Apple internally calls WWDC simply "Dub Dub"? The name is derived from the English word "double-u."
