App update – Telegram gets new features

Telegram is a free, cloud-based instant messaging service. It's available on various smartphones, tablets, and PCs. In addition to text messages, photos, videos, and documents can be sent. Version 5.10 for iOS, released this weekend, adds even more useful features to the app. One of the new features is "Silent Messages." If you hold down the send button in a chat, the message is sent silently. This means the recipient won't hear a sound when the message arrives—ideal for sleeping chat partners. This feature can be used completely independently of the notification settings of the receiving device.

The update also added "slow mode." This allows group administrators to specify how many messages group members are allowed to send in a specific time interval. Several values are available, ranging from ten seconds to a full hour. Specific members can be exempted from the rule upon request. This feature is designed to better protect groups from spam. Version 5.10:

• Hold down the send button in the chat to send messages without sound. Ideal if the chat partner is sleeping.
• Enable slow mode in group permissions to control how often members can send something.
• Define your own names for admins, e.g. 'Team Leader'.
• Accent colors for dark color themes (Settings > Appearance).
• Playback of animated stickers can be switched on and off at any time (Settings > Stickers).
• Send a single :heart: :thumbsup: :meh: :wow or :party: emoji in a single message for an animated emoji.
