Rumors about new over-ear headphones have been with us for over two years. Now Apple has announced the AirPods Max presentedBelow we have summarized AppleCare+ prices, the package insert and more.

Now that Apple has officially introduced the AirPods Max, we have precise details about what exactly is included and what isn't, and what accessories or add-ons users may need. The headphones, which cost just under 600 euros, come with the following accessories:

  • AirPods Max headphones
  • Smart Case
  • Lightning to USB-C cable

Accordingly, this product does not come with a power adapter or 3.5mm audio cable. It is currently not known which power adapter Apple recommends, as this is not stated on the product page. However, it can be assumed that the company will subsequently list the new 20W charger. If you need an audio cable (3.5mm), you can purchase one with a lightning connector separately (35 US dollars). However, the product has not yet been listed in the German store.

AirPods Max: Compatibility with third-party devices

The AirPods Max have been equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 so that users can also use them with non-Apple devices. However, the functionality is limited. For example, automatic connection or switching and spatial audio are not supported. Apple explains the whole thing as follows:

AirPods Max can be used as Bluetooth headphones with Apple devices using earlier software and with non-Apple devices, but functionality is limited.

So if you want to enjoy the full range of functions, you need iOS 14.3 or higher, iPadOS 14.3 or higher, macOS Big Sur 11.1 or higher, watchOS 7.2 or higher, or tvOS 14.3 or higher.

battery life and charging

According to Apple, the AirPods Max offer around 20 hours of playback on a single charge. The battery life can be achieved with both noise cancellation and transparency mode activated. In addition, up to 20 hours of video playback should be possible with 3D audio activated. If you make a lot of phone calls, Apple should have around 20 hours of talk time. In terms of charging, Apple states that around five minutes of charging time allows for around 1.5 hours of playback. If the new over-ear headphones are stored in the included Smart Case, the battery life is extended due to extremely low energy consumption.

AirPods Max: AppleCare+ and accessories

If you decide to buy the 600 Euro headphones, you can also book AppleCare+ for around 59 Euro. Given the repair costs, it should certainly make sense. In the event of a repair The deductible is the usual 29 euros. Without AppleCare+ coverage, a battery replacement costs around 82.96 euros. If you want to replace the ear pads, you can buy them separately in silver, black, green, sky blue and red for 77.00 euros. According to Apple, these will be "available soon". The 384.8 gram over-ear headphones can be pre-ordered from today in over 25 countries, including Germany, for 597.25 euros. Delivery will start on December 15th. Apple also offers free engraving when ordering online. Buyers can choose between a mixture of text, emoji and numbers. (Image: Apple)
