After Apple officially discontinued the iMac Pro, the 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display seems to be the next in line to say goodbye.
As the US blog MacRumors first discovered , the 21.5-inch iMac is now only available with 256GB SSD and 1TB Fusion Drive options. Previously, it was possible to choose 512GB and 1TB SSD options as well. Earlier this month, a person familiar with Apple's supply chain claimed that the company has stopped producing the 512GB and 1TB SSD configurations of the iMac 4K entirely. Now, those versions are no longer available on Apple's website. Apple last updated the 21.5-inch iMac line with 8th-generation Intel processors, newer storage options, and improved graphics capabilities in early 2019. The company recently discontinued the original HomePod as well as the iMac Pro. Now that the iMac 4K division is being scaled back, it's possible that the first Apple Silicon iMac devices will appear sooner than expected.
Apple gradually withdraws 21.5-inch iMac from the market
Rumor has it that Apple is planning to update both the 21-inch and 27-inch iMacs this year. They will feature a brand new design and a new Apple Silicon processor from the M series. Bloomberg reported the following in December:
Apple is working on successors to the M1 with up to 20 CPU cores, consisting of 16 high-performance and 4 efficiency cores. The company is expected to introduce ARM versions of the higher-end MacBook Pro and entry-level and high-end iMac desktops in 2021.
