In June of this year, after numerous complaints, Apple acknowledged the problem with the butterfly keyboard on MacBooks from 2015 – 2017 and promised a free repair.

The new third generation butterfly keyboard should make users happy and not repeat the mistakes of its predecessors - that's Apple's plan. Each key has a silicone protector. This is supposed to reduce typing noise and prevent dust and crumbs from getting inside. Now there are increasing reports that the new keyboard is also not free of errors.

First reports from August

Two well-known tech bloggers were among those affected - Stephan Hackett and John Gruber. While Hackett had to struggle with a double-hitting space bar, Gruber had to do without the letter "S" altogether.

Initially, these were so-called isolated cases, but now a number of complaints have accumulated. MacRumors There are already over 600 posts in the forum describing problems with the third generation of the butterfly keyboard. But complaints are not uncommon in other forums and blogs as well. It is currently doubtful whether these problems are really as widespread as they were with the previous models. Given the fact that Apple sells large quantities of such products, it is not surprising that errors do occur.

According to initial analyses, the keyboard problem seems to be limited. Realistic statistics will only be available next year. It should also be noted that the general error rate for an Apple product is lower than that of competing products. The future development of this matter remains exciting.
