According to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is unlikely to unveil its first Apple AR/VR headset at WWDC 2022, as this would give competitors time to copy the design before the official launch.
Every year, there are rumors about hardware launches or announcements during WWDC. But most of the time, it remains a purely software-focused event. Now, rumors are growing about the upcoming Apple AR/VR headset. Some observers believe Apple could unveil the brand-new product during the WWDC keynote. This is due to a trademark application discovered on Sunday. Specifically, Apple has secured the word trademark "RealityOS" through shell companies. This is the name the operating system for the upcoming product category will be called.
Apple's AR/VR headset: Market launch not expected until 2023
Now, some believe that Apple will unveil the operating system and the actual product will be revealed at the same time. However, the actual launch of the headset is not expected until 2023 and that is the main reason Kuo leads.
It will still take some time before Apple's AR/VR headset goes into mass production, so I don't think Apple will unveil the AR/VR headset and its accompanying RealityOS at WWDC this year. Apple's competitors around the world can't wait to see the hardware specifications and operating system design for Apple's AR/VR headset. I'm sure that when Apple announces the AR/VR headset and its operating system at WWDC, competitors will immediately launch copycat projects and happily copy Apple's excellent ideas so that they can be on store shelves before Apple's launch in 2023.
