Apple will officially open the 32nd Worldwide Developers Conference this evening at 7 p.m. and present iOS 15, iPadOS 15, tvOS 15, watchOS 8 and macOS 12. But will the company also announce new hardware?

The Worldwide Developers Conference is actually considered a software-focused event and thus concentrates on the next generation of operating systems. New hardware announcements are rare in this context - but they do happen. As a reminder: Last year, at WWDC 2020, Apple did not announce any new hardware. But at WWDC 2019, Cupertino unveiled the Mac Pro and the associated Pro Display XDR.

WWDC 2021: Leaker contradicts rumors

For several weeks, various sources have been claiming that Apple could unveil a MacBook Pro with a brand new design during WWDC 2021. Now a very reliable leaker has spoken out. In response to a tweet asking whether there will be hardware announcements at WWDC 2021, the cryptic but reliable leaker "l0vetodream" says there won't be any. In a follow-up tweet, he rules out that new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will be unveiled at this time. Accordingly, the presentation of the new notebooks is not planned in conjunction with WWDC 2021, as other leakers have claimed. Originally, YouTuber Jon Prosser and some analysts claimed that Apple will unveil at least one of the two MacBook Pro models with a new Apple Silicon processor this evening.

HomeKit is also to be improved

However, supply chain reports from sources such as Nikkei Asia and DigiTimes have stated that mass production of new MacBook Pro models will not begin until the second half of 2021. According to them, an unveiling of the devices is unlikely at this point. Finally, "l0vetodream" also hinted that at least one of Apple's software platforms will receive a new user interface. However, he did not specify which one it is. It is likely to be iPadOS 15, as the iPad operating system is said to be undergoing a fundamental overhaul. He also said that Apple plans to announce improvements to its smart home framework HomeKit. If you don't want to miss anything, you should download our app and activate push notifications. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
