3D Touch is a feature that Apple introduced with the iPhone 6s. The user has the option of performing three different functions by pressing the touch-sensitive display with varying degrees of force. The pressure sensitivity can be individually adjusted on compatible devices.
Since the introduction of the 3D Touch function, all subsequent iPhone models, with the exception of the iPhone SE, have been equipped with it. So far, the iPads have also missed out. According to a recent report, Apple now wants to say goodbye to the feature altogether - to be precise, there will no longer be any iPhones with this technology from 2019.
More complex and expensive
The Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis also gives several reasons for this. Firstly, the function is of little use and is far too complex to manufacture in comparison. The sensors required for this make the manufacture of the displays much more difficult, which is why production is also more expensive. If 3D Touch were more popular among users, Apple would certainly continue to use the feature. According to the latest rumors, the upcoming 6.1" LCD iPhone will be delivered without 3D Touch. Whether this will ultimately be the case remains to be seen.
