According to a new report, Apple is working on another pro-level monitor that could replace the Pro Display XDR and uses an Apple-designed chip at its heart.

A new report claims that the Pro Display XDR is probably not Apple's only monitor in the professional display market. In fact, a new display model with the code name J327 is already in development. This information is reported by the US blog 9to5mac receive However, the report itself does not offer many details. The reason for this is said to be the early development phase. According to the source, the prototype currently uses the A13 Bionic chip, with the neural engine in the chip being used to accelerate machine learning tasks. It remains unclear what the A13 will be used for beyond the alleged acceleration of machine learning.

Is Apple working on one or more monitor models?

Theoretically, it could be used as a kind of graphics accelerator via the Thunderbolt port, like an eGPU from Intel can. Interestingly, similar speculations were documented even before the release of the Pro Display XDR. In addition, we must note that this is not the first report of this kind. Rumors were already documented in January 2021 that Apple was not only working on a new Mac Pro but also wanted to develop a cheaper monitor. Whether it will end up being the same product is currently unclear. Apple's existing Pro Display XDR has a diagonal of 32 inches and a resolution of 6015 x 2284.

Each LED in the backlight is factory calibrated, with the modulation of each LED done using a series of special lenses and reflectors for true HDR. To manage reflected light, the Pro Display XDR has an anti-reflective coating. It also has an optional matte option that the company calls Nano Texture, with glass etched at the nanometer level to reduce reflection and reduce glare. The bezels are 9mm thick. Of course, the whole thing costs accordingly. The display starts at 5,499 euros and can cost up to 7,817 euros depending on the features. (Photo by Unsplash / Nana Dua)
