According to reports, the upcoming Mac Pro will likely lack support for PCI-E graphics cards and user-upgradable memory.

Apple's Silicon Macs have never offered support for external GPUs since the beginning, and now it looks like the M2 Mac Pro won't be able to change that. Loud According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the Mac Pro "may" not have upgradeable graphics processors, adding to the expected lack of modularity and expandability.

New Mac Pro with Apple Silicon could disappoint some

This leaves RAM as the most important upgradeable component of the new Mac Pro. The big difference between a Mac Pro and a Mac Studio - in addition to M1 Ultra to M2 Ultra - should be performance through more cooling.

It has already been reported that the Mac Pro does not allow for memory upgrades because memory is part of the Apple Silicon processor. Although the Mac Pro continues to use Intel processors, there are circumstances in which the most expensive Mac can compete with the cheapest, the Mac mini. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
