In recent weeks, we have been spoiled by the rumor mill - from realistic to absurd. But now there is a serious prediction regarding the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2.

The well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has spoken out again and broken down Apple's AirPods plans. According to him, the AirPods 3 are to be the direct successors to the AirPods 2. However, there will be no external changes. The update focuses on the internal design. This means that the AirPods 3 will be similar to the AirPods Pro rely on a system-in-package design and thus replace the rigid-flexible PCB+SMT design. It is currently not known whether there will be any significant innovations. However, the release date will be exciting. According to Kuo, the AirPods 3 will go into mass production in the first half of 2021. This contradicts a statement by Jon Prosser, who believes that Apple will announce a new generation of AirPods in May this year. If Kuo is correct, Prosser could use the information discovered today Powerbeats Pro 2 – alternatively, Kuo could of course be mistaken. His note states:

AirPods Pro 2 will be released much later

The third generation AirPods will enter mass production in 1H21 and the most significant change in the internal design of this new model is the adoption of SiP to replace the rigid-flex PCB+SMT design of the second generation AirPods. We believe Apple will introduce this new model due to the declining demand for the second generation AirPods. Luxshare ICT will be the main supplier.

In addition to the AirPods 3, Apple's upcoming high-end headphones were also mentioned. Kuo confirmed a Bloomberg report that these new modular headphones will be released in the second half of the year. They are said to offer two material variants that can be magnetically replaced at any time - read more hereRegarding the AirPods Pro 2, Kuo said they won't go into mass production until late 2021 or early 2022. As far as he knows, no new AirPods will be released this year. The rumor that Apple has planned a lite version of the AirPods Pro based on the Beats X for late 2020 may be true, but it could mean a new Beats product - possibly an update to the Beats X itself.
