Apple is working on a completely redesigned version of the Magic Mouse. This was announced in the latest edition of Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter. The new version is intended to address some long-standing criticisms, including ergonomics and the problematic placement of the charging port. Although the Magic Mouse was recently equipped with a USB-C port, Apple is already working on a model that is "better suited to modern times."

The redesign is intended to improve ergonomics as well as move the charging port to a more functional position so that the mouse can be used while charging. In addition to addressing these weak points, the new Magic Mouse could receive other technological improvements. More precise sensors, optimized battery life and possibly new functions for the multi-touch interface are conceivable. These further developments would not only make the mouse more comfortable but also more powerful. As for the timeline, Gurman says the new Magic Mouse is not expected for at least 12 to 18 months. This suggests a possible release in 2026. Interestingly, the launch could coincide with the also planned MacBook Pros with OLED displays, which suggests a larger product strategy.
A Magic Mouse that eliminates weaknesses and convinces?
Apple seems to be ready to fundamentally modernize the Magic Mouse. Improved ergonomics, a functional charging port and possibly other technical innovations could make the mouse significantly more attractive. Although the launch is still a long way off, the news offers reason to hope that the next generation of the Magic Mouse will address many of the weaknesses of the current version.
