Apple will launch a redesigned MacBook Pro in 2026, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has confirmed. It's not just a matter of minor updates—it's a true redesign with three major changes: a new OLED display, a thinner chassis, and the new M6 chip.
Apple has been developing the MacBook Pro for years, but the basic design has remained largely the same. Now that's set to change. According to current reports, the 2026 model will feature an OLED display with new technology for the first time, a significantly slimmer design, and more powerful chips based on 2-nanometer technology. OLED display comes to the MacBook Pro
Apple will equip the 2026 MacBook Pro with an OLED display for the first time. This was expected following the introduction of OLED technology in the 2024 iPad Pro. OLED primarily offers better contrast, more vibrant colors, and higher brightness compared to previous mini-LED panels. According to information from TheElec, Apple plans to use so-called tandem OLEDs in the MacBook Pro. These displays consist of two RGB layers stacked on top of each other. This gives the display higher brightness and a longer lifespan. The MacBook Air, on the other hand, will stick with a simpler single-stack OLED, which contains only one RGB layer. The display cutout will also be slightly different. Apple could eliminate the notch with the OLED switch. Omdia reports a new camera cutout in the style of "rounded corner + hole cutout." Whether this will be a single hole or a dynamic element like the iPhone is not yet known. What is certain, however, is that the cutout will be smaller and less noticeable than before (via Bloomberg).
Thinner housing planned
Apple also plans to redesign the exterior of the MacBook Pro. A thinner chassis is planned. No further details on the new design are available yet, but Bloomberg is talking about a significantly slimmer device. Whether the shape or materials will also change remains unclear. This revised version was originally planned for 2025. However, delays in display technology have apparently forced Apple to postpone the launch to 2026. It is now considered certain that the new design will only be introduced with the OLED display.
M6 chip with 2nm technology
With the redesign, Apple is also introducing the new M6 chip series. This is the first to be based on TSMC's 2-nanometer manufacturing technology. This means more performance and improved energy efficiency compared to the previous 3nm chips. The A20 chip for the iPhone is also expected to be released with this technology at the same time. As usual, three versions are planned for the 2026 MacBook Pro: M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max. All will be available in both 14-inch and 16-inch versions. Thanks to the new manufacturing process, users can expect a significant increase in performance—especially for compute-intensive tasks such as video editing, software development, or machine learning.
