This year, some companies, including Apple, could introduce a much more powerful fast charger. The new power supply is said to be based on gallium nitride technology (GaN).
According to a new report, a number of technology companies are planning to introduce a new power adapter - Apple is also said to be one of them. The new GaN USB-C charger is also said to be capable of fast charging at 65 W. According to the GIZChina Article:
According to Caifa News, in addition to Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung, OPPO, and Apple also have deep accumulation of GaN technology. Xiaomi, a provider of Xiaomi GaN solutions, said that after Xiaomi, "several manufacturers of the same size as Xiaomi will launch GaN power supplies this year."
Gallium nitride (GaN) technology uses fewer components overall than standard silicon chargers, which is why GaN-based power supplies require much smaller housings. One example is the new 61 watt wall charger from Choetech. This is only half the size of the 61 watt MacBook power supply.
Versatile charger for Apple products
According to GIZChina, Xiaomi has also already introduced a charger with GaN technology. It uses a USB-C interface and supports fast charging at 65 watts. This means that a Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro can be fully charged within 45 minutes.
Thanks to the new semiconductor material GaN (gallium nitride), the size of this charger is about 48% smaller than that of the standard adapter of Xiaomi notebook. In addition, the USB-C interface of Xiaomi GaN Type-C 65W charger supports intelligent adjustment of output current in multiple gears. It can charge up to 65W for high-performance devices such as the new MacBook Pro and Xiaomi notebooks.
The power supply can therefore recognize connected devices and automatically regulate the appropriate output power. It remains to be seen whether Apple will actually introduce such a charger this year. There are currently no further indications that such a plan is in place.
