Rumors about future iPhone generations are regularly documented – as is the case with the iPhone 2023 series. The notch is said to disappear once and for all.

Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently prepared a report for investors that provides insight into Apple's plans for future iPhones. While the camera could receive a major upgrade in 2022, the Face ID system is set to be completely redesigned in 2023. Specifically, Kuo explains that the periscope telephoto lens will debut in the 2023 iPhone. In addition, Face ID will be fully integrated under the display. Since its debut with the iPhone X, the notch has primarily served to house the TrueDepth camera system that enables Face ID.

iPhone 2023: More advanced components are expected

It is reported that Apple Kuo is planning a smaller notch for the 2021 iPhones, but the ultimate goal is full integration under the display and it should be ready in 2023. Kuo has already claimed that at least one high-end iPhone model in 2023 will have an under-display fingerprint scanner without a notch and with a true full-screen display. At the time, however, he did not mention Face ID. From a technological point of view, the realization of an under-display facial recognition system requires more advanced components, as the TrueDepth camera system must be able to read and recognize faces through the pixels of the display without distorting or disturbing the content. Whether Apple will succeed in implementing this in 2023 remains to be seen. (Photo by Unsplash / TheRegisti)
