However, the facial recognition Face ID introduced with the iPhone X will remain and not be replaced by Touch ID. Citing supply chains, the site claimed that Apple will only equip the iPhone 2021 with Touch ID 2.0 and wants to do away with Face ID completely.
Two biometric authentication types in one device
Kuo also believes that Apple wants to completely merge Face ID and Touch ID – but power consumption, module size and accuracy are currently a problem. But by the end of 2021, this could all change. Various patents have already confirmed Apple's interest in two types of biometric authentication in one device in the past. The use of Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint system is very likely for the new Touch ID.
