Rumors about future iPhone models are a regular occurrence. But recently there has been a lot of speculation about new camera systems. Now the topic of the periscope lens has been brought up again.

For many months, there have been reports that Apple wants to use a periscope lens in the future. Originally, it was claimed that the innovation could already appear in the iPhone 14 Pro. But that is not the case. According to analyst Jeff Pu (via MacRumors) will debut in the iPhone 15 Pro. Pu thus confirms an earlier prediction by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. But what exactly is a periscope lens?

iPhone 15 Pro: Periscope lens briefly explained

With a periscope system, the light that falls into the telephoto lens on the back of the iPhone is reflected by an angled mirror onto the camera's image sensor. By changing the direction of the light, Apple could build a longer telephoto lens into the iPhone, allowing users to zoom in further without causing blur. In other words, a periscope system could significantly increase the optical zoom. Rumors of a periscope lens for the iPhone have been circulating since the beginning of 2020. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was originally the first to mention this innovation. In the meantime, a patent has also been filed. discovered, which officially confirmed Apple's work. There are already some Android smartphones with periscope lenses, including Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra and Huawei's P40 Pro+. Both devices have up to 10x optical zoom, a feature that some iPhone users would also like to have. (Photo by Unsplash / Jeremy Bezanger)
