Rumors about the iPhone 14 series, which is expected in 2022, have been increasing for several days. Now the well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has spoken out to investors in a new letter.

Kuo writes in his forecast that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will appear without a notch but with a new hole-punch camera in the display.

Hardware selling points for the 2022 iPhones include 1) a new iPhone SE with 5G support (1H22), 2) a new and more affordable 6.7-inch iPhone (2H22), and 3) two new high-end models that come with a punch-hole display (instead of the notch design) and a 48MP wide-angle camera (2H22).

With this statement, Kuo repeats his own forecast and at the same time supports reports from other leakers as well as analysts documented In terms of design, Kuo had previously reported that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will abandon the notch design in favor of a new "punchhole display," similar to what is used in some Android flagships.

iPhone 14: Will Apple redesign the wide-angle camera?

The iPhone 14 series is expected to be available in two different screen sizes: 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch. This could come in the form of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, as well as the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to Kuo, however, the new camera hole design will be reserved for the Pro models. That means the two cheaper Devices could continue to rely on the notch. As for the 48MP wide-angle camera, it is possible that the images output by the iPhone will continue to have a resolution of 12 megapixels. Apple could use a technology called "four-cell merge output mode", which is also used by some Android devices, to create a 12 megapixel output image with more details and less noise from the 48 megapixel raw data. Whether Kuo will be right in the end remains to be seen. (Image: Jon Prosser x Rendersbyan)
