The rumors that the iPhone 12 will have a ProMotion display have been documented for months. But the statements differ from one another. Now there is new evidence.

There are rumors that Apple will supposedly give the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max a ProMotion display. However, there are also dissenting voices who doubt this and expect this innovation to arrive in 2021 at the earliest. Now the leaker @UniverseIce on Twitter, whose specialty is Samsung. But he has also had a few leaks about Apple in the past. According to him, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are said to have a ProMotion display that supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The screens are manufactured by Samsung, while BOE provides the displays for the cheaper models.

iOS 14 beta offers room for speculation

In this context, it is worth noting that some users of the iOS 14 developer beta are seeing an accessibility setting that limits the device's frame rate to 60 frames per second. This setting, which is not visible to all beta users, suggests that future iPhones may allow higher refresh rates. Current iPhones have a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz. Therefore, this finding, together with the recent statement, could already be considered a confirmation.

Four iPhone 12 models are expected

A total of four different iPhone models will be introduced. While the 5.4- and 6.1-inch devices will be introduced as normal versions, the 6.1- and 6.7-inch iPhone will be introduced as Pro models. All four devices will have an OLED display, with the Pro versions having a Super Retina XDR panel that supports ProMotion technology. If you believe the rumor mill, the whole thing will look like this:

  • iPhone 12 – 5.4-inch display with OLED Super Retina by BOE; 4 GB RAM; storage capacities of 128 and 256 GB; aluminum body; dual camera; prices 649 & 749 US dollars;
  • iPhone 12 Max – 6.1-inch display with OLED Super Retina by BOE; 4 GB RAM; storage capacities of 128 and 256 GB; aluminum body; dual camera; prices $749 & $849;
  • iPhone 12 Pro – 6.1-inch display with OLED Super Retina XDR and ProMotion technology from Samsung, with a color depth of 10 bits; 6 GB RAM; storage capacities of 128, 256 & 512 GB; stainless steel case; triple camera with LiDAR scanner; prices 999, 1,099, 1,299 US dollars;
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max – 6.7-inch display with OLED Super Retina XDR and ProMotion technology from Samsung, with a color depth of 10 bits; 6 GB RAM; storage capacities of 128, 256 & 512 GB; stainless steel case; triple camera with LiDAR scanner; prices 1,099, 1,199, 1,399 US dollars;
