Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims to have learned of changes in Apple's supply chain. He believes that Semco and Sunny Optical (the "best" Korean and Chinese lens suppliers, respectively) will be added to the iPhone supply chain this year. The inclusion of two manufacturers from the same industry is no surprise in this case. The Cupertino-based corporation has been sourcing components from different suppliers for years to increase competition in its supply chain and reduce costs. According to Kuo, the iPhone 12 camera will use Semco's ball-based voice coil motor, which provides improved autofocus compared to the current spring-based design.

In addition, the analyst believes that iPhone devices will receive periscope telephoto lenses from Semco in 2022. Periscope lenses have already found their way into some smartphones and offer manufacturers the opportunity to offer a much higher optical zoom in a smartphone.
