Rumors about new AirPods are currently in short supply. Apart from a few isolated reports, there is hardly any information worth mentioning so far. Now there is speculation about a possible release date.
Some time ago, there was a rumor that Apple would introduce the AirPods 3 in the first half of 2020 - but that was not the case. The accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted an update in 2021 at the earliest. Now the Taiwanese news site DigiTimes has spoken out. According to the report, Apple plans to introduce the AirPods 3 in the first half of 2021, with the AirPods Pro 2 to follow in the second half of the year. This is what the report:
Apple will launch its third-generation AirPods in the first half of 2021, followed by the launch of a new generation of AirPods Pro in the second half of next year. Relevant assemblers are preparing for production at their factories in Vietnam, according to industry sources.
DigiTimes thus supports Kuo's previous statement. He has already made a forecast, although this differs slightly with regard to the AirPods Pro 2. According to Kuo, Apple could present the small ANC plugs at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.

It is currently assumed that the AirPods 3 will be externally similar to the Pro version. This means that the stem will be significantly shorter. The ANC feature, however, will remain reserved for the AirPods Pro - according to Kuo. It is not known what functions the plugs will offer. With regard to the AirPods Pro 2, the whole thing remains even more unclear. So far, only the release date has been commented on, but not new features. For example, it would be possible to use light sensors in both models. This would enable the AirPods to monitor the wearer's heart rate, number of steps and state of health.
