Apple's suppliers are already busy producing. But apparently not everything is going according to plan. For example, a supplier for the iPhone 12 camera lenses is said to have quality problems - but the schedule is not in danger.
Well-informed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has provided new details on iPhone 12 production (via MacRumors). According to the report, there are quality issues with the camera lenses for the cheaper models. However, the schedule is not in danger as long as Apple's main supplier is compensating for this - according to Kuo. Specifically, according to the analyst, Genius Electronic Optical has discovered problems with cracked coatings on the wide-angle camera lens intended for the 5.4 and 6.1 inch models. The problem occurred during the so-called high temperature/high humidity tests (HTHH) and will lead to delays in the delivery of components for the upcoming iPhones by Genius - according to Kuo. Apple's main supplier for these lenses, however, is Largan. According to the report, this supplier does not have any quality issues. For this reason, Apple will probably prioritize deliveries from Largan in order to still be able to meet the schedule. The note states:

We estimate that mass production of the low-end 7P wide-angle lenses, CCM, and final assembly of the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch aluminum frame for iPhone will occur in mid-to-late August, mid-to-late September, and early October, respectively. We believe that given [Genius'] uncertain timeline to resolve the film tear quality issue, Apple will prioritize purchasing Largan's low-end 1/2.6" 7P wide-angle lens at least in the first phase of shipments to ensure that the two aluminum-frame iPhone 12s can be produced as planned.
The iPhone 12 Pro models, however, are not said to be affected. Apple itself has already announced at the last conference call confirmedthat new iPhone models will be released a few weeks later than usual. The devices are expected to launch in October. Some reports suggest that the four devices will hit the shelves at different times. This means that the launch could extend into November. Specifically, the two 6.1-inch models will debut first, followed by the 5.4- and 6.7-inch iPhone 12. The presentation, however, could take place in September as usual.
