Rumors that Apple is working on a redesigned iMac were first documented last summer. Now a new report has been published that addresses the topic of Face ID.

Apple is reportedly working on a redesign of the iMac. The device is to be stylistically closer to the Pro Display XDR design. Face ID was also mentioned in the reporting. But the use of facial recognition may still have to wait. Bloomberg reports that Face ID will not debut in the new iMac this year. This means that the feature will be added in a later version. In addition, the report Apple's intention to release a series of updates to the Mac line that reflect the wishes of the most loyal Mac fans.

Face ID hints in macOS Big Sur code give hope

Apple has also developed Mac support for both cellular connectivity - the ability for Macs to connect to the internet through smartphone networks - and Face ID, the company's facial recognition system. Neither feature seems to be coming anytime soon. For this reason, Face ID was originally planned for this year's iMac redesign, but it now seems unlikely to be included in the first iteration of the new design.

Apple's Face ID feature, which allows you to unlock a device using a facial scan, is currently limited to the iPhone and iPad. But there are notes in the code of macOS Big Sur, according to which the feature could also be integrated into Macs. The discovery at the time fueled rumors about the topic. Why Apple might now postpone Face ID integration to later models is currently unknown. There may be further details on this from other reputable sources. (Photo by Ruslan Ivantsov / Bigstockphoto)
