If you were hoping Apple would pull some new hardware out of the hat at WWDC 2025, you'll have to wait until later in the year. This year's developer conference will be entirely focused on software. Instead, Apple is shifting its focus more toward operating systems, AI, and platform consistency. Find out exactly what you can expect here.
WWDC is primarily an event for developers. In some years, Apple also showcases new hardware—most recently in 2023 with the Vision Pro. 2025 will be different. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, there will be no new devices at this year's keynote on Monday. According to him, Apple simply doesn't currently have any hardware to present at WWDC. Nevertheless, the event is no less relevant. It's all about updates, further developments, and, above all, Apple Intelligence—the big topic from last year, which is expected to get new features in 2025.
What Apple will present at WWDC 2025
Software remains the focus
It's no coincidence that Apple isn't showing any hardware. WWDC has traditionally been heavily focused on software. The operating systems take center stage: iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. This year, the focus is on iOS 26, the further development of Apple Intelligence, and the unification of the design language.
iOS 26 with new design
Apple will unveil a new look for iOS 26, heavily influenced by visionOS. It features a glass-like aesthetic that will later be rolled out to other platforms. The goal is to create a consistent visual experience across all Apple devices. The versioning system will also be revised. Apple hopes to provide greater clarity regarding updates and feature sets in the future.
Apple Intelligence: More AI, but in small steps
Apple Intelligence was a big hit in 2024. However, it got off to a slow start. 2025 isn't expected to bring spectacular new features, but rather solid advancements. These include:
- better opening of basic functions for third-party app developers
- a new power management mode that saves power with AI
- an updated Translate app that works more closely with Siri and AirPods
Gurman doesn't expect Apple to make any major leaps here. Rather, the innovations are intended to make the system more stable and more suitable for everyday use.
What about new hardware
Even though Apple isn't showing any hardware at WWDC, that doesn't mean nothing will come in 2025. Quite the opposite: Several devices are in the works, including:
- the iPhone 17
- new Apple Watch models
- updated Mac models
However, all of these devices are expected this fall, as usual. There are also hints of a new AirTag being developed. However, according to Gurman, it's not significant enough to be unveiled at WWDC.
Apple sticks to its software strategy
WWDC 2025 is a software-only event—and that's a good thing. Apple is using the opportunity to refine its operating systems, better integrate Apple Intelligence, and harmonize the design of its platforms. Anyone wanting new hardware will have to wait until the fall. Until then, Apple is delivering one thing above all else: stability, consistency, and better tools for developers.
