According to various rumors, the Apple Watch Series 7 will have a new design. The edges will be flatter, the display larger and the bezels smaller overall. CAD renderings have now surfaced that are supposed to confirm this.
The renderings provided by 91mobiles published show an updated Apple Watch design inspired by the flat edges of the iPhone 12, iPad Pro, iPad Air, and the upcoming 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros. From the renders, it is clear that the back of the Apple Watch will consist of the same configuration of health sensors as the current Series 6. The shots do not show any significant design changes to the Digital Crown or side button. However, they do show two speakers that stretch across the entire side of the Apple Watch, compared to the current side-by-side speaker design. According to the size details, the Apple Watch Series 7 will also be available in 40mm and 44mm sizes. While the bezels of the upcoming smartwatch are said to be thinner overall, which would lead to a larger display, the flat edges also allow for a larger surface area.
Apple Watch Series 7: Will old straps be compatible?
Bloomberg has already reported that Apple is testing a new screen lamination process that will bring the display closer to the cover glass. If the CAD renderings are indeed real, the 44mm Series 7 will have a 1.8-inch display. For comparison: The 44mm Series 6 has a 1.73-inch display.
In addition, the entire watch is expected to be 1.7mm thinner than its predecessor. Interestingly, the design of the Apple Watch Series 7 was revealed by Jon Prosser a few months ago. Prosser presented concept images presented, which largely match today's CAD renderings. However, many have wondered whether their straps will still be compatible.
