Rumors that Apple wants to add a feature to the iPhone that allows charging of AirPods and an Apple Watch have been circulating since 2019. Now there are new details.
In a report detailing the development of MagSafe battery accessories for the iPhone 12 series describes, Bloomberg also addressed the issue of charging accessories. Apple is said to have "internally discussed the goal of allowing many of its mobile devices, such as Apple Watch, AirPods, and iPhones, to charge each other." However, it currently seems unlikely that the feature will be introduced in the near future. Apple planned to introduce the feature with the launch of the iPhone 11 series (2019). However, the plans were scrapped – according to Bloomberg.
The iPhone 12 series already has the charging feature
Interestingly, however, all iPhone 12 models have the feature. According to documents submitted to the FCC, users could charge an Apple Watch Series 3 or newer, AirPods with a wireless charging case, and other accessories on the back of the iPhone. The company may plan to activate it once the new MagSafe battery pack has been introduced. This would provide additional power and make the whole thing much more efficient.
