Apple wants to update almost all Mac devices in 2022

Apple will launch at least seven Mac models with Apple Silicon processors this year, including a large-screen iMac Pro and a new version of the Mac Pro.

Apple has committed itself to switching from Intel processors to its own Apple Silicon within two years, by the end of 2022. To make this switch, Apple will have to make a few other changes to its product range in addition to the normal upgrades of existing models. In 2022, Apple could launch at least seven new Mac models. The claimed now Mark Gurman in his latest newsletter issue “Power On”.

Extensive update of the Mac series

In addition to the products that could be unveiled at the spring event, Gurman also lists Mac models that are expected to be released throughout the year. Gurman's list mainly includes models with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, as well as the expected new generation of the M2 chip. An improved M1 Max is also expected in 2022. The Mac mini is expected to have a redesigned chassis with a plexiglass-like top cover and more Thunderbolt ports on the back. The list of models includes a Mac mini that will be updated with the M1 Pro chip, as well as a second one with an M2 chip. There will also be a 13-inch MacBook Pro and a redesigned MacBook Air with the M2 chip. Gurman also speculates about an updated 24-inch iMac with the M2 chip, as well as the enlarged iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chip variants.

Smaller version of the Mac Pro is supposed to be a performance beast

The new Mac Pro with Apple Silicon and a smaller chassis is expected to contain chips that have the performance of two or four M1 Max chips. A version of the larger iMac with entry-level specs probably won't be available, Gurman said, saying that Apple could have offered just that as an alternative size option at the time of the 24-inch refresh. It is believed that the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini are the best candidates for a spring update, as they are "two of the oldest Apple Silicon Macs in the lineup," Gurman said. Whether his theory is correct remains to be seen. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
