According to a new report, Apple plans to unveil several new Macs in the next few months, including new MacBook Pro, Mac mini and Mac Pro models.
In the latest issue of the “Power On” newsletter reported Mark Gurman announced that Apple is continuing work on the first Apple Silicon Mac Pro and accelerating internal testing of the device. The high-end Mac desktop is expected to feature chips that are at least twice or four times more powerful than the M2 Max. In addition to a new "M2 Ultra," a brand-new "M2 Extreme" chip is also expected. Gurman expects the Mac Pro to be offered with options for 24 and 48 CPU cores and 76 and 152 graphics cores, as well as up to 256 GB of RAM.
New Mac Pro is being tested with macOS Ventura 13.3
Gurman added specific information about a particular Mac Pro configuration that is apparently being actively tested at Apple: a model with 24 CPU cores (including 16 performance and eight efficiency cores), 76 graphics cores, and 192GB of memory. The device is reportedly running macOS Ventura 13.3. As expected, Gurman said the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will be available in M2 Pro and M2 Max configurations. The M2 Max will reportedly have 12 CPU cores (with eight performance cores and four efficiency cores) and 38 GPU cores, and will still come with up to 64GB of memory.
Apple Silicon: New MacBook Pro & Mac mini models to be released soon
The M2 Max is expected to continue to be available for both display sizes. The next-generation Mac mini will reportedly feature the same M2 chip as the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Apple has tested an M2 Pro chip in the new Mac mini, which has a higher core count. However, Gurman did not say whether the company will continue with that model. While he doesn't expect the new Mac Pro to launch before 2023, Gurman said he expects the next generation of MacBook Pro and Mac mini models "within the next few months."
