The upcoming Mac Pro with Apple Silicon will have the same design as the 2019 model and will not offer user-upgradable memory due to Apple Silicon's all-on-chip architecture.

In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg revealedthat the upcoming Mac Pro, the last product to switch to Apple Silicon, will have the same design as the current Mac Pro from 2019. Unlike the current Intel-based Mac Pro, the upcoming model will also not have user-upgradable memory.

Mac Pro with Apple Silicon could disappoint power users

Another disappointment is that the new Mac Pro will look exactly like the 2019 model. It will also lack a key feature of the Intel version: user-upgradable RAM. That's because the RAM is connected directly to the M2 Ultra's motherboard. Still, there are two SSD storage slots for graphics, media, and network cards.

Gurman has reported that Apple has scrapped plans to release a higher-end model of the upcoming Mac Pro with 48 CPU cores and 152 GPU cores due to its high cost and likely niche market. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
