In recent days, reports have been pouring in about Apple's Mac lineup, with the future of the larger iMac in the spotlight. Now, a new report has surfaced claiming that Apple has no plans to introduce a larger iMac.

Citing unnamed sources with knowledge of Apple’s product pipeline, reported 9to5mac reported that Apple will not launch a larger iMac "in the near future." With the introduction of the Mac Studio, Apple discontinued the Intel-based 27-inch iMac, causing some confusion about the future of the iMac line. Apple confirmed told Ars Technica that the 27-inch iMac has "reached the end of its lifespan," suggesting that the company does not intend to position an updated 27-inch model alongside the 24-inch iMac.

Sources have mistaken “Studio Display Pro” for iMac Pro

Despite the discontinuation of the 27-inch iMac, there have been rumors of a larger-screen iMac Pro in development. However, at least some of these rumors may have been confused with the Studio Display. Display analyst Ross Young said this week that what his sources believed to be an iMac Pro is actually a "Studio Display Pro," slated for release later this year, perhaps alongside the Mac Pro. Young no longer believes an iMac Pro will arrive this summer. Information from 9to5Mac also seems to support this assessment.

Will a large iMac make a comeback in 2023?

The website states that Apple "is not currently planning any new high-end versions of its all-in-one desktop," although a 24-inch M2 version of the iMac is slated for release in 2023. Other sources indicate that we will see an iMac Pro at some point. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated last Sunday that an iMac Pro will launch in 2023. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also claims that Apple is still working on an iMac Pro. For now, Apple recommends the Mac Studio, starting at €2,299, for customers who want a powerful desktop computer, while those who want an all-in-one computer can opt for the 24-inch iMac.
