According to various reports, Apple is in talks with a number of car manufacturers. The company is looking for a production partner for the so-called Apple Car. Hyundai Motor is said to be one of these candidates. Now a Korean report claims that Hyundai wants to hand the whole thing over to Kia in order to pave the way for production on US soil. writes the eDaily:
It is known that Hyundai Motor Group, which received a proposal from Apple for cooperation in the field of electric vehicles, has internally arranged for Kia to take responsibility for this project. If Kia decides to do so, the production base of the Apple Car will be at Kia's plant in Georgia in the United States.
According to the report, talks related to the "Apple Car collaboration" were held on Tuesday. If Kia agrees, the report says, the project will be carried out at the company's plant in West Point, Georgia.
The Apple Car is still years away
The report notes that manufacturing the car in the United States would "facilitate collaboration with Apple." While recent reports have named parent company Hyundai as a leading potential partner, the new publication states that Hyundai does not believe it is best suited for the Apple Car "due to its strong will" to develop its own brand and that it does not want to become an OEM factory for Apple cars. Finally, it claims that Hyundai is "still cautious" and a final decision is pending.
