Apple has reportedly started developing a 20-inch display that may be used for a future MacBook Pro model, The Elec reports, citing industry sources.

Dem report According to reports, the 20-inch device will feature a 20.25-inch OLED display manufactured by an unknown South Korean supplier. With the 20.25-inch display unfolded, the device would have an active 15.3-inch screen, making it larger than the current largest iPad Pro but smaller than the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Assuming the screen size when unfolded is 20 inches, the project product is likely to have a shape close to a MacBook (laptop). Assuming a 20-inch product is 20.25 inches, it will be 15.3 inches when unfolded. The currently available screen sizes of the Apple MacBook series are mid to late 10 inches, and the screen sizes of the iPad (tablet) series are between less than 10 inches and early 10 inches.

The report claims that Apple is aiming for a commercial launch of its foldable device in 2026 or 2027, but notes that it is unlikely that Apple will do so before switching the iPad and Mac to OLED displays.

First iPad Pro models with OLED expected in 2024

Currently, only the high-end models of the iPhone and Apple Watch have OLED displays while the other Apple products rely on LCD panels. In another part of the report, The Elec claims that Apple plans to replace the iPad mini with a foldable device that is 10-inch in size and notes that a foldable iPhone is "unlikely," although it says Apple is working on it. According to today's report, Apple plans to launch 11- and 12.9-inch iPad models with OLED displays in 2024, which is consistent with previous reports and rumors. The report also names 2025 as the year Apple plans to launch a MacBook Pro with an OLED display. (Photo by Photography Lover / Bigstockphoto)
