The launch of the current iPhone generation was only two months ago. Now we're already getting the first reports about the successors.
The well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported back. His predictions have mostly been correct in recent years, which is why his statements about upcoming products and the like carry more weight. In his latest report to investors, he writes about the antennas built into the iPhone. These are to be revised in the upcoming iPhone line-up.
New antenna technology
In order to improve reception, Apple is said to be planning a new technology mix. The reason for this is that the liquid crystal polymer (LCP) technology currently used has several disadvantages. Firstly, its production is very complicated and secondly there is a lack of suppliers. As a result, Apple has even higher costs due to little room for negotiation.
According to Kuo, Apple therefore wants to use modified PI technology. This means that from 2019, the devices will be equipped with four of these new antennas and two LCP antennas. The current generation of devices is delivered with six LCP antennas. The mix of both technologies can save costs and improve general reception. It remains to be seen whether this will really succeed.
